Janice Chen, a long-term hobby enthusiast, has spent much of her free time and money on learning new skills and experimenting with them.
Growing up in a household that valued being busy over boredom, Janice learned a lot. At the very young age of 4, she learned to play piano. At the age of 8, she learned to fish with her father and sister, then moved into swimming, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, sewing clothes, and baking pastries between the ages of 8-10. At the age of 11, she learned to make coffee, Greek salad, gravy, fry fries, and bust tables at a cafe. Then, at the age of 13, she learned to play the alto saxophone.
Her hobbies truly started to bloom throughout high school and college as she started to learn coding and design. Knowing design was going to be her career, she pivoted to different hobbies in her free time to give her creativity more outlets and broaden her horizons.
Since then, she’s tried painting, scrapbooking, crocheting, polymer clay modeling, mural art, blogging, writing short stories, and so much more. Whether or not she has been successful at each hobby is another story that will not be told.
Her journey as a hobby enthusiast continues on as she strives to learn new things every single day. What will she learn next? Only time will tell.
For now, she is…stir-frying on a wok as the head chef in a restaurant while consumed in the classic world of MapleStory Artale and searching for her next opportunity.
